Make Me Workout: A personal workout app and project

An iPhone app I built to organize workouts, keep things local, and make it easier to work from routines I find online.

What is Make Me Workout?

Make Me Workout is a personal iPhone app I built to keep workout planning simple and local. It started as a way to keep track of the exercises and routines I wanted to use without turning the whole process into another subscription service.

It supports bodyweight, home workouts, calisthenics, weightlifting, and gym sessions. The app is designed to keep data on the device and leave room for personal workflow, experimentation, and reuse of ideas from elsewhere.

  • Keep workout data local and under personal control.
  • Bring routines in from social media and turn them into something usable.
  • Track progress in a way that can help surface when more challenge may be appropriate.

What the app is trying to support

This project is focused on a simple workflow: keep workout planning easy, keep data close to the user, and make it easier to reuse routines that show up in everyday life.

That can mean home workouts, gym sessions, bodyweight training, or a routine discovered while browsing the web or social media. The goal is not to create a polished fitness brand so much as a useful tool that fits into a personal routine.

How it handles privacy

One of the main design decisions was to keep workout and history data on the device rather than centering the app around accounts or data collection. That keeps the project aligned with the way I prefer to use fitness tools.

Using routines from elsewhere

A practical part of the app is the way it can bring in routines discovered in social media or elsewhere and turn them into something more structured. It is a small feature, but it reflects one of the main ideas behind the project: make it easier to act on ideas without losing them in a bookmark folder.

Tracking progress in a practical way

I also wanted the app to make progress easier to read over time. When recent averages improve, that can be a useful signal that a slightly harder session or a small increase in challenge may be appropriate.

Why I built it this way

I built Make Me Workout because I wanted something that felt less like a platform and more like a personal tool. It grew out of a desire to keep fitness planning simple, local, and useful without adding extra friction or subscription pressure.
